The project “The future has memory - All alike, all different” originated from the need to cover the theme of inter-culture, given the high number of foreign students in our schools. The path was conducted involving various subjects, such as Italian Language and Literature, History, Geography, Art, Physical Education, and Music. The objective was to present oppressed peoples and relevant oppressors in history, to lead the students to reflect on the peoples studied, and to reach the common conclusion that different does not mean negative, inferior, but resource.
In particular, 5 oppressed peoples were presented and their related 5 oppressors in 5 frames: 1) INDIANS-COWBOYS; 2) LATIN AMERICA – DRUG LORDS; 3) BLACK AFRICANS – ENGLISH AND FRENCH COLONIZERS; 4) BLACK AMERICANS - AMERICA OF CONSUMERISM; 5) JEWS-GERMANS. These peoples were studied in depth through videos, narrations, etc. Lastly, some pieces of music were matched with the peoples, and choreographies were realized on the pieces of music. A dialogue between a grandfather and a grandson was the recurring theme between one frame and another.
In the end, the peoples join to become a single, large population. A white figure arrives to make this union possible.
The tools used were as follows: an IWB; a CD player; a space at school to realize the choreographies; a laboratory to create the costumes; various types of materials to make objects: canes, recycled cardboard, broom sticks, etc.; a theatre for the final performance.
The skills, goals and training objectives selected by the teacher for this experience are shown below.
The students learned how to:
- place peoples historically and geographically;
- relate to others;
- accept others;
- discover and enhance their feelings;
- listen to and analyze the musical pieces proposed by the teacher;
- identify the form of a musical piece;
- realize rhythmic choreographies.
