The project, realized during the day NONE SHALL SPEAK on 21 November 2017, had the aim to immerse the students attending four third-year primary school classes in the world of music, presenting it to them from various characterizing perspectives, involving them actively. The day was marked by several theoretical activities and many practical laboratories, providing them with various inputs of this universal means of communication through which to express themselves. “My None shall Speak” lasted an entire school day, from 8.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m., with two breaks (morning snack and lunch), and ended with the participation of the Comprehensive Institute Coluccio Filocamo of Roccella Ionica (RC) in the competition “MY NONE SHALL SPEAK”, through the realization of a barely 3 minute video that summarized the experience.
The spaces and instruments necessary to realize that day were as follows: the entrance hall of the primary school involved, shaped as an amphitheater with large steps as seats, an IWB, a PC and a good sound system with a microphone. The hall hosted 64 students and the teachers involved in presenting the activities to be carried out throughout the day and the initial performance of several female students who had prepared a dance choreography, while a guest parent played the sax; the IT laboratory with a PC-IWB and PC positions for the students in order to present the audio editing software Audacity; space: a classroom free from desks where the students carried out a choreography in a body percussion circle time; a free space (in our structure, a large corridor dividing the classrooms) where we positioned two keyboards, a set of drums and some bongos in order to conduct an ensemble music improvisation activity with musical instruments and voice; space: a classroom organized with groups of four desks joined together on which we placed a piece of white package paper for action painting activities carried out in separate groups of four students provided with tempera colors and paint brushes.
The skills, goals and training objectives selected by the teacher for this experience are shown below.
The students learned how to:
- Listen to, interpret and describe musical pieces of different genres
- Improvise freely and in a creative way, gradually learning how to master techniques and materials
- Make use of analogic or coded notation
